What is my Treatment Plan?
Your Treatment Plan at CARE is a contract between you, your counselor, CARE and anyone else you designate who outlines your treatment. You will decide the areas that need to be worked on, the accomplishments and goals that must be met prior to discharge, the methodologies that will be employed while you are here. Prior to your graduation from CARE, you will have a continuing CARE treatment plan which will outline the things that you and your counselor feel would be helpful in your recovery when you return to your home.
What is a Family Program?
It is the consensus of wisdom that Addiction is a family disease. Regardless of your particular problem, your illness has probably created difficulties in communication, trust and relationships with your family. During your stay at CARE you will learn the skills that you will need to communicate, restore trust and work on family relationships if possible. We also attempt to work with your family both in person and by phone to provide counseling and education so that they understand their role in both your illness and recovery. Our family program provides your family with information and tools which, will help them understand how to better deal with your problems…and their possible co-dependency.
In addition to individual family counseling sessions, we also provide families with the opportunity to attend regular family meetings. In addition to educational workshops and therapeutic group sessions, your family will have the opportunity to share strengths, hopes and experiences with other families. There is significant strength in realizing that your situation is not unique, and you are not alone.
Will I be able to work?
Gainful employment is a very important part of normal life. Initially however, your focus will need to be on treatment. We do not permit work during your initial stages of treatment. Obviously, if there is a real work emergency, we will call you to the telephone, however, work is not permitted during the initial phases of treatment.
When you enter phase two of treatment, The Sober Living Community, you will be expected to return to work and / or find a job. Many residents find jobs in walking distance of their residence. Since this is a resort community, hospitality industry jobs are usually readily available. Those with access to their own transportation can also find jobs in almost any industry in nearby Palm Beach.
Naturally, if you have a job out of the area, after initial treatment, we will help you to create a continuing care plan with supportive services in your own area.
Do you offer recreational activities?
During the initial phases of treatment, we offer a full therapeutic recreation program. We recognize that boredom is often the reason for relapse. For this reason, many of our groups are directed at teaching you to have sober fun. We often visit State Parks, the beach, hold barbeques and holiday celebrations as well as special outings all directed at learning a healthy recovery lifestyle.
Should you choose to join our Sober Living Community after graduation from the intensive program your opportunities for recreation expand tremendously. In this community the whole great outdoors is our playground. Nestled between the waters of the Intracostal and the Atlantic Ocean, every water sport from swimming to jet skiing is available. Many consider this area the sailfish capital of the world. The local waters teem with fish that are easily caught from the bridges and surf. Parasailing, snorkeling and diving all provide for exciting days adventures. For those who golf, the area has many championship courses. Tennis, volleyball and a gym are also available for the sports minded. If you feel like just being lazy we have a number of beaches and state parks for picnicking and just plain being lazy in the sun.
What will I do at CARE?
During your stay at CARE, you begin to reorganize your life in preparation for either returning to your home and/or starting out fresh in a new life. The first step is gaining an understanding of what you gain through the use of drugs, eating disorder, process addiction, gambling and/or mental illness. . Working with our professional staff you will begin to analyze the underlying reasons that cause your problems, develop tools to improve your coping skills and begin to make changes in your life. Because we believe that it takes practice to transition to the real world, we have created a mini-world for you to practice what you have learned. In our safe community, you will have a chance to practice important relationship building skills, the importance of behaving responsibly in society, healthy recreational activities, assumption of responsibility, budgeting, and other important healthy life skills. We will help you to learn to rebuild the trust of your family and friends as you begin to practice the rigorous honesty that is required for the quality life that you intend to lead. We will also help them to understand the nature of your disease, and provide you with the skills to manage it.
How long will I stay at CARE?
Every individual is different and each has different needs. The minimum stay in treatment at CARE is 30 days. Everyone is accepted on two weeks probation. If we do not meet your needs, and/or we feel we are not going to be able to successfully help you, the clinical team will help you to locate alternative treatment. We are in no hurry to put you out. Our goal is to help you become drug free and stay that way. It is our wish to only rehabilitate you once. For that reason, we prefer not to rush the job. It is always more cost and time efficient to do the job once, the right way. We do not wish to have you repeat the process again and again.
Because we have a full continuum of care, we can help you make a smooth slow transition back to your regular life.
What if I relapse?
We don’t want you to even think about that possibility. If you relapse, you will be reassessed. A determination by the clinical staff will be made to decide if the CARE program is still appropriate for you, or if you must be referred elsewhere. Relapse, should you be allowed to remain in the community, results in a return to Phase I of treatment and resumption of the increased services and additional fees.
Will the cost of my stay at CARE be covered by my insurance company?
CARE works with most insurance companies. Because of wide variety of differences in policies, the only way to be certain of your coverage is to have the office call and “pre-cert” your insurance. This means that our staff will contact your insurance company and determine your coverage. Once that is done, they will inform you of your personal responsibility.
Although insurance companies sometimes do not pay what they have promised, unlike many other rehabs, CARE will guarantee your out of pocket expenses. This means that after we pre-certify coverage, you will not be billed for expenses the insurance company refuses to pay during the certification period.
To begin the process, please call our office. They will be happy to provide you with a confidential and no obligation statement of actual cost.
What can I do if I do not have the money for treatment?
Unfortunately CARE is unable to treat anyone without charge. A number of partial scholarships are available through our not for profit Foundation CARE's Helps. You may apply for one of these scholarships on line (scholarship application), (Can we place a hyperlink) or by calling the office at 866 494 0866 and ask for Dr. Mitch. Even if we are unable to help you directly we will be happy to attempt to refer you to a State Subsidized program which may meet your needs.
Will I be allowed to choose the types of foods I will be eating at meal times?
Food is an important part of your recovery. Healthy lifestyle, mindful eating, and appropriate nutrition are all part of recovery. Many patients coming to CARE find that because of other problems, they need to renormalize their relationship with food. Our nutritionist will work with each client to devise a meal plan which takes into account the clients nutritional requirements, as well as their likes and dislikes for certain foods. Staff will assist in discovering new and creative ways of preparing food.
Will I be allowed to bring my vehicle to Treatment?
Transportation is provided. Clients are allowed to bring their vehicles to CARE, although use will be restricted by staff during the initial phase of the program. If at all possible it is far better to leave your vehicle at home till you require it.
Will I be allowed to attend 12-Step meetings?
Yes, we believe strongly in the 12-Step concept of recovery, and encourage our clients to become involved in our local support groups, especially as they relate to eating disorders, gambling and chemical dependency. Clients are required to attend meetings. Transportation and supervision are provided to, from and during meetings by CARE Staff.
Must I participate in all of the activities?
Every activity at CARE is designed to assist you in your total recovery. While we would certainly like you to experience everything we will not force you to participate in anything. You will however be required to attend all activities…even if you do not participate.
What if I don’t like my room-mate? Can I get my own room?
Private rooms may be available. Private room reservations require a 1000 dollar per month surcharge. If there is difficulty with rooming, staff will work to resolve issues and/or change your room.
Will I be able to receive visitors?
Visitations are a privilege. Sunday is visiting day. Patients are eligible to request a visitor pass once they have completed their probationary period, which lasts 7-14 days. Passes are granted at the discretion of the clinical team. Please note, anyone visiting CARE may be subject to a drug screen.
May I make phone calls?
Cell phones are not permitted at CARE. No phone calls are permitted while on probation. After probation (7-14 days) patients are permitted to make phone calls from their counselor’s office.
Do I need a phone card?
No, CARE will absorb the cost of your phone calls.
